Conservation Agriculture (CA) is a crop based farming system that promotes permanent soil cover, minimum soil disturbance, and diversification of plant species. It enhances biodiversity and natural biological processes above and below the ground surface, which contribute to increased water and nutrient use efficiency. CA is a core component of FAO’s Save and Grow Approach for sustainable crop production, and is well recognized by farmers, researchers, and agriculture and extension specialists worldwide and is currently practiced in 78 countries, on 180 million hectares, corresponding to 12.5% of global cropland.
