Seminar: Sustainable And Climate-Smart Agriculture: Developing Networks And Synergies Between Africa And Europe

The African Conservation Tillage Network (ACT) and the European Conservation Agriculture Federation (ECAF) will be make public presentations at a seminar titled Sustainable and Climate-Smart Agriculture: Developing Networks and Synergies between Africa and Europe to be held in FAO Rome, Italy.

The seminar will focus on the need to boost sustainable agricultural production in Africa and how to support climate change adaptation and mitigation. The discussions and presentations will focus on smallholder farming systems in rural Africa and medium-scale commercial farmers in Europe. ACT and ECAF will highlight the importance of emerging partnerships and capacity building, strengthening linkages with knowledge hubs and connections to service industries, and the role that agricultural equipment and innovation can play.

Signing of Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs)

The African Conservation Tillage Network (ACT), in its quest to expand partnership and networking, gladly wishes to announce a new move to strategically enter into a partnership with International Organizations/ Institutions in the spirit of forging synergies and complementarities to support scaling up adaptation and adoption of Conservation Agriculture, Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization and Ecosystem Management in Africa. This arrangement is purposed to facilitate alliances that will unblock hindrances to expanded and scaled-up adoption of SA, especially among the smallholder farming systems and related industry in Africa. This new and fresh front will see ACT sign two Memorandum of Understanding with different organizations as follows:

Memorandum of Understanding with FAO Rome: On Thursday, 7th February, 2019 1100 - 1200Hrs, at FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy, Gabon Espace Room, Africa Conservation Tillage Network (ACT) will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to synergize on the scaling up of Sustainable Agricultural Mechanisation and Conservation Agriculture in Africa.

Memorandum of Understanding with CREA: On Thursday 7th February 2019 at 18:00 hours, in CREA head office, Via Po 14 – Roma, Italy, Africa Conservation Tillage Network (ACT) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Consiglio per la ricerca in agricoltura e l’analisi dell’economia agraria (CREA), the Italian Agricultural Research Institute, on agricultural research and cooperation.

These MoUs will bolster synergies on the scaling up of Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Agricultural Mechanisation all over Africa and enable ACT, CREA and FAO to contribute to improved livelihoods and wealth creation in Africa.
