Africa faces many developmental challenges, including pervasive poverty, food insecurity and rampant land degradation. The causes of these challenges are varied and interlinked and the effects of climate change will worsen the situation. It is critical that, in a region where up to 80% of the population’s livelihoods depend on agriculture, stakeholders put in place policies and programmes that ensure growth in the agricultural sector.
