Eng. Richard Shetto was the Former Director Mechanization at the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives since 2009 until his retirement in 2014. He is currently engaged in Agribusiness and consulting services within the continent.
Eng. Shetto is a member of several institutions including: the Tanzania Engineers Registration Board; the Institution of Engineers Tanzania; a board member of the Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation and Appropriate Rural Technology (CAMARTEC) since April 2004; a board member of SUMA JKT a commercial wing of the National Service dealing in construction industry, textile manufacturing, farming and agricultural machinery since September 2009; and the Agricultural Inputs Trust Fund dealing in providing loans to farmers in agricultural machinery and agro inputs since May 2010.
His vast work experience has seen him capacitated with on-farm hands on skills when he was engaged with the National Agricultural and Food Corporation (NAFCO) as a Planning and Operations officer in farm machinery at Mbarali Rice Estates. He later focused his attention to agricultural engineering research, for 30 years, as a Researcher with the Uyole agricultural research institute of the Ministry of Agriculture.
He holds a MSc. in Agricultural Engineering from Cranfield Institute of Technology, Silsoe College, Bedford, England and a BSc. (Hons) in Agriculture (with option in Agricultural Engineering) from the University of Dares Salaam.
